Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt

After a lot of hemming and hawing, I decided to follow along with Bonnie Hunter 's Orca Bay mystery quilt. So, the first step is to cut out 896 tiny triangles and sew them into 224 hourglass blocks. No problem, right? I think I may have lost my mind.
This is the result of an entire Saturday worth of sewing. Each little pile there is 10 blocks. So, yeah, I have 60 blocks. About a quarter of the way there.
I worked on it some on Sunday and yesterday, so now I'm up to about 100 or so, with a bunch more ready to sew.
Time consuming little things.
Let me just say I fear step 2.
But aren't they cute?

  2. Interesting color choices, I like a brown-rust color palette. Congratulations on getting halfway there, I'll work on mine again today along with my red and white challenge quilt.

  3. Yes, they are cute, and a lot of work ! Hopefully next week will be easier. Last year the first week's work was so easy, so I think this time Bonnie will let us off a bit next week.

  5. Carolyn -- Okay, no one else said it, so I will ... yes, you are crazy! Ha, ha ... just kidding. Wow, what a project! The first thing I would do is google on the internet for shortcuts to the block you're making. I always try and find the fastest way to get the most out of my cuts ... for instance, there's a method for making 1/2 square triangles where you do the math to figure out the size times 4 ... cut a super huge block, then subcut into 4, and then you aren't sewing little pieces to little pieces. Check it out! What did you every do about your brother's quilt ... inquiring minds are wondering!
